POSITION DESCRIPTION
Certis Oncology is seeking an Animal Care Technician to support our growing vivarium. This position will be responsible for performing husbandry and technical tasks to provide comprehensive care for immune-compromised mice in a BLS2 facility. This position provides an excellent opportunity for growth and advancing the ideal candidate’s laboratory animal skills.
Qualified candidates MUST have Vivarium experience.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in a sterile environment with immune-compromised mice, using aseptic techniques.
  • Perform routine animal husbandry and welfare.
  • Perform cage changing, providing clean bedding and materials for mice housed in the vivarium.
  • Observations of animal health, behavior and appearance.
  • Report findings and provide support using basic veterinary medical treatment as prescribed by the veterinary staff.
  • Sanitation duties for vivarium including animal rooms and procedure rooms.
  • Perform routine vivarium and instrument decontamination.
  • Document and record environmental monitoring conditions.
  • Autoclaving of biowaste for disposal.
  • Routine decontamination of rooms within the vivarium using a fogger.
  • Freezer/refrigeration temperature monitoring and recording.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment, computer terminals, and data entry.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed study records.
  • Assist in maintaining vivarium supply inventories – stocking and ordering.
  • Routine weekend and holiday work required.
  • Other duties may be assigned in addition to those listed above.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of experience working in a laboratory animal facility.
  • Must have a general understanding of animal welfare regulations and of the importance of ethical use of animals in research.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of experimental methods.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Flexibility to work within changing shifts, including weekends, holiday, and evenings to accommodate business needs.
  • Ability to use a computer, familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in dosing animals, tissue collection, and tumor measurements are a plus.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
